Durness to Talmine near Tongue

This was day 12 of our 26 day adventure through the Highlands of Scotland. After the usual very comprehensive Scottish breakfast we set off at 9.30 again. Inspite of the good forecast it turned out to be cloudy 9C rising to 13C and later in the morning we even got wet in "Scottish Mist" as we crossed the moors near Ben Hutig on our way to Talmine near Tongue. Google maps enabled Neil to calculate that we had covered 49 KM. The first part involved a big southerly loop around Loch Eriboll where the going was easy but at the end of the day we had walked up part of 5 steep hills!

We came across this peninsular (Ard Neakie) which in the 19th Century was a limestone mine where there were lime kilns. The lime was used to increased the land production by changing the acidity of the peaty soil.
