The North Coast 500

The route that we are taking is a large part of the North Coast 500. Since it was marketed a few years ago it has greatly increased the travellers on this route. See: www.northcoast500.com. As we are cycling along we are just one type of traveller enjoying it. The web site is sponsored by Aston Martin. Some sports cars we have seen are one Aston Martin (from Edinburgh), a beautiful restored Morgan, a few Jaguars, quite a number of Porches BMWs and Mercedes. There are many groups of Motorcyclists. It must be a Motorcyclists dream to ride the winding route with the many turns and hills. Then there are the trailers (caravan’s), motorhomes and camper vans. Finally there are people in cars. Even so the traffic volume is relatively small and there are only a few places to speed. With the single track road and passing points it slows everyone down.

I took some photos of what appears to be a very well kept camp site. The motorhomes in Europe are smaller than we are used to!

Here was an unusual traveller - a woman towing a cart with all her camping gear.

Neil stopped and talked to a man who was hiking with a Donkey, carrying his gear, from Cape Wrath to Portland Bill!
